We provide enriching education and community programming, which instill both individual and civic respect for nature, and contribute to advancing the physical, economic and social sustainability in the Rockaway Peninsula. Living Classroom is an STEM educational program that uses NYS Science Core Curriculum Standards for K-12 classes to provide students with hands on experiential learning. The program offers public school teachers the opportunity to work with RWA educators who have experience in a variety of science related fields, to foster an appreciation for the natural environment and enable students to explore challenging social and environmental issues.
Workshops address a variety of topics specifically designed for classes K-12 with lessons focused on climate change, renewable energy, urban farming, healthy cooking, marine science, recycling, water safety and careers in STEM related fields. Each workshop involves hands on activities related to the lesson to actively engage learners.
Rockaway Waterfront Alliance is looking for an educator to round out our team and lead 45- to 120-minute Living Classroom workshops at local schools and at the Rockaway Institute for a Sustainable Environment.
Essential Functions
Responsibilities of the Living Classroom Educator are to:
Ç Coordinate with local schoolteachers to organize visits and field trips.
Ç Develop hands-on, experiential curriculum.
Ç Teach the 45- to 120-minute workshops.
Ç Engage possible partners including Edgemere Farm, National Park Service, New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, etc. to present to K-12 as part of the workshops.

Qualifications
Ç Associate Degree or higher.
Ç Education experience with K-12.
Ç Hands-on knowledge of climate change, renewable energy, urban farming, healthy cooking, marine science, recycling, water safety and careers in STEM related fields. Ç Arts and craft skills.
