Description
The Billion Oyster Project is currently seeking an experienced and personable
individual to fulfill our full-time Community Reefs Regional Officer position. This individual will
manage the Community Reefs Program in the Canarsie & Coney Island communities, as well as
participate in our city-wide efforts to reach more New Yorkers and engage them in the work of
restoring New York Harbor. This includes cultivating current and new relationships with local
community organizations; engaging local youth through educational programming at our Canarsie &
Coney Island Creek reef sites and managing community partners as long-term reef stewards.
Essential Functions
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
● Managing, building and cultivating relations hips with local s chools , organizations etc.
● Activating new community partners and local s chools as s tewards of their local community reef
● Implementing educational activities at community reef s ites with local youth groups
● Developing creative new methods to engage a wider s cope of the community to their local reef
● Working with the BOP field team on reef cons truction and monitoring activities
Qualifications
Skills & Qualifications:
● Excellent public s peaking and communication s kills
● Comfortable working outdoors with public groups
● Comfortable working at the s horeline and on boats
● Mus t pos s es s a good s ens e of humor as well as enthus ias m and pas s ion for the
environment/ marine ecos ys tem
● Strong work ethic, profes s ional manners and flexibility
Education & Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science or Similar
● At leas t 1 year of experience working with s tudents and/ or the public
● Ability and willingnes s to learn new s kills aligned with the indus try
