Description

H2M Architects + Engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, environmental consulting firm in our Melville, NY or NYC, NY Office seeks a Department Manager for our Structural Engineering Department to oversee the vision, planning, execution and success of the Structural Engineering corporate strategy across all H2M offices by developing the firm’s strategy to grow and expand H2M services in line with corporate initiatives.

Essential Functions

Develop and oversee implementation of strategy for growth: o Establish and implement a plan for growth of the structural department. o Financial proficiency in establishing project related fees and revenue projections and profit margins is required. o Establish financial performance goals and execute plan to achieve these goals to ensure growth. • Working closely with H2M’s head of the Architecture Division to establish staffing needs, achievable project schedules and an excellent work product. • Responsible for the overall talent development of current and future staff within the Structural Department. • Coordinate and communicate with division/market leaders regarding optimizing and diversifying H2M structural engineering services throughout the company and across offices. • Identify staffing needs for strategic hires for the department. • Develop a program with the division to ensure the structural engineering needs are met and hires are being made as outlined in the business plan. • Responsible to make sure we provide excellent customer service both internally and externally. Will respond to requests of others as needed and set up a communication protocol for existing and future clients to ensure their needs are met. This includes communication with account managers within the market and the divisions. Work with account managers to farm additional work from current clients. • Develop and monitor all quality programs related to Structural Engineering. • Design and coordination of work on multidiscipline projects ranging from due diligence/project feasibility studies to site structural engineering designs. • Support of overall project direction and perform project administration which includes writing reports, gathering information, writing proposals & correspondence and tracking project costs. • Coordinate with other engineering and architectural departments within the firm. • Relationship building and communication directly with clients in support and coordination of all project activities. • Be known as the H2M representative and “the expert” in structural engineering and provide visibility for the firm. • Responsible for the on-time, on budget, high quality technical delivery of all project requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or closely related discipline required. • NY Professional Engineer License (PE) required. • 10 years minimum of demonstrated leadership, project management and client relations experience. • Strong client management skills coupled with the ability to cultivate existing and new clients, and expand business relationships and opportunities. • Must possess strong project financial and core business management skills with proven ability to grow a profitable business unit. • Technical expertise and familiarity in the areas of structural engineering principles and practices of related technical areas required. • Ability to manage multiple priorities, provide direction to staff, and lead structural engineering teams. • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD STAAD Pro, ETABS, Excel, and Microsoft Office. • Must also show current involvement in professional memberships and related networking organizations. • Exceptional presentation and oral and written communication skills a must.
